Australian Visas ................Old Page..............

The alternatives available can be complex and it is important that you get it right.

  • Permanent entry visas
  • Temporary entry visas
  • Work visas
  • Visitor visas
  • Business visas

The Migration Programme which comes under the permanent entry visa has 3 categories: skilled, business and family.

Skilled
Generally Australia wants people who will quickly contribute to the economy. Therefore, skilled under 45s are in demand. See Occupations in demand.

Qualifying factors for skilled migration for you or your partner are age, English fluency, occupation, skills, qualifications, work experience, good health, character and clean police record.

Business Skills Visas
If you are a successful business person. A business owner, an investor, a senior executive or entrepreneur you would apply for the business skills visa. The visa comes with obligations and you will be tracked at regular intervals to assess your contribution.

Family
If you are to be sponsored by a relative, they must be
an Australian citizen, or an Australian permanent resident. Either you or your spouse must be related to your sponsor as either:
  • non-dependent child - including a natural, adoptive or step-child;
  • parent - including adoptive or step-parent;
  • brother or sister - including adoptive or step-siblings;
  • niece or nephew - including adoptive or step-niece or nephew; or
  • aunt or uncle - including adoptive or step-aunt or uncle.

Some areas have other requirements. And as a relative you do not have automatic right of entry.
