Partner Visa – Update
From 9 December 2017 the Migration Act 1958 was amended to recognise same sex married partners as Spouses. As a result, same sex married applicants can now apply for the Australian Partner Visa as “Spouses” rather than “De-Facto Partners”. This amendment has also important implications to engaged applicants wishing to apply for the Prospective Marriage Visa. Up to 9th December 2017, only couples of the opposite sex were able to apply for this visa. Since 9th December 2017 as a result of introduction of the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017, same sex couples can apply for the Prospective Marriage Visa.
Affected Visas: Partner Visa (Spouse): Subclass: 309/100 & 820/801 and Partner Visa (Prospective Marriage) Subclass 300. To read more, please visit: https://www.emigrate-to-australia.co.uk/partner-visa-australia/
