Australian Regional Visa Initiatives

New Funding to attract migrants to regional Australia

The Australian Minister of Immigration has announced more funding to attract skilled migrants to Australian Regional Areas. It is proposed to invest $19.4 million in funding in the next 4 years.

Employers based in Regional Areas as well as Skilled Migrants wanting to settle in Regional Areas will be given access to Visa application priority assessing. Australian Regional Areas include locations outside major capital cities.

Further initiative would involve the Immigration officials working directly with employers and communities in regions experiencing skills shortages. Regional Employers are to receive support in attracting skilled migrants to grow and develop businesses and creating opportunities.

Australians Regional Areas, including regions outside Sydney, Melbourne and South East Queensland  are suffering from critical skills shortages. Visa programs supporting employers in Regional Areas are already in place in Northern Territory  which has recently expanded the Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA – https://www.emigrate-to-australia.co.uk/dama/ ). A similar agreement is expected to be signed soon in Warrnambool, Victoria Great South Coast.

Those agreements are designed to facilitate the process of sponsoring migrants with job offers from employers  based in Australian Regional Areas. Many occupations, which are not available for standard Employer Sponsored Visas ( such as Temporary Skills Shortage Visa or Employer Nomination Scheme) are available under DAMA arrangements.

Migrants with job offers willing to settle in Regional areas will be offered expediated Visa processing times as well as pathways to apply for Permanent Residency Visas.

Skilled Migrants with occupations listed on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL- https://www.emigrate-to-australia.co.uk/emigrating-to-australia/) might apply for the Skilled Regional Visa without a job offer provided they meet all the criteria.
