New Trade occupations added to Vetassess

 

The following trade occupations are now assessed by Vetassess for Australia Skilled Migration:

  • Fitter and Turner
  • Fitter-Welder
  • Toolmaker

Prospective applicants wishing to apply for the Skilled Migrant and the Employer Sponsored visa (permanent/selective countries for TSS visa) must have a positive assessment of work experience and qualifications in their nominated occupation. Vetassess is a nominated body for assessments in certain trade occupations for selected countries.

Applicants must meet relevant qualifications and work experience requirements. The length of work experience will depend on the type of qualifications or on-the-job training. In most cases, work experience must be recent and have been completed within the last three years.

 

Occupation definition

The Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations provides the following description of the above occupations:

METAL FITTERS AND MACHINISTS fit and assemble fabricated metal parts into products, set up machining tools, production machines and textile machines, and operate machining tools and machines to shape metal stock and castings.

Fitter and turner:

Fits, assembles, grinds and shapes metal parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment.

Skill Level: 3

Specialisation:

Fitter Armament (Army)

 

Fitter-welder:

Fits, assembles and welds metal parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment.

Skill Level: 3

 

Toolmaker:

Toolmakers and engineering patternmakers make and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and other precision parts and equipment to fine tolerances for machine tools and other production machinery, and construct full-size engineering, visual and experimental models and models for the manufacture of prototype developmental products.

You must consult a detailed description of competencies under each occupation before you proceed with the application. 

 

What the assessment involves:

Stage 1 – Documentary Evidence Assessment

This is a paper-based application where you must provide evidence of your skills, knowledge and experience in the nominated occupation.

Stage 2- Technical Interview

This is an interview with an Australian trade assessor who will verify your knowledge and competencies necessary to work in your trade in Australia.

Application outcome:  

Upon successful completion of the assessment you will be issued with a letter confirming your skills are suitable for migration and an Australian Certificate III qualification and a Statement of Results, which will be a great incentive to your CV once you start looking for jobs in Australia.
