How does New South Wales Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) Visa Work?

At the close of December 2021, NSW announced offshore applicants will now be eligible for nomination in NSW if skilled in certain ANZSCO unit groups.

ANZSCO has a structure of 5 hierarchical levels, these are combined of:

Major group

Sub-major group

Minor group

Unit group

Occupation

 

New South Wales Nominated Visa (190) Applicant Requirements:

As part of the recent announcement, applicants are now required to have a minimum of three years work experience in your nominated occupation.

The three years minimum work experience criteria is required for both onshore and offshore applicants.

There are 3 streams on the NSW program

  • Stream 1- occupations on NSW Nominated (190) visa
  • Stream 2- occupations on the NSW Regional (489) visa
  • Stream 3- high ranking applicants on the CSOL

The government nominates applicants for both Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) and Skilled Regional (provisional) visa (Subclass 489). As the selection process in NSW is extremely competitive, applicants who are in occupations on the NSW (Subclass 190) visa will be invited first.

As part of the (Subclass 190) nomination process, the applicant must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Must be working on the NSW Skilled Occupation List
  • Hold a valid skills assessment
  • Be competent in English
  • Lodge an expression of interest (EOI)
  • Submit nomination within 14 days of being invited by the NSW government

NSW Skilled Regional (provisional) visa (Subclass 489) checklist:

As part of the (Subclass 489) nomination process, the applicant must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Must nominate an occupation on the NSW 489 Skilled Occupation List and apply to the relevant Regional development Authority.
  • Apply with a required CV
